MHM Wales Moves from Level 1 to Level 2 in the Disability Confident Scheme!
We are thrilled to announce that MHM Wales has officially progressed from Disability Confident Committed (Level 1) to Disability Confident Employer (Level 2)! This is a fantastic achievement that highlights our commitment to ensuring an inclusive, accessible, and supportive workplace for disabled employees and job seekers.
What is the Disability Confident Scheme?
The Disability Confident Scheme, led by the UK Government, encourages businesses to actively improve recruitment, retention, and career development for disabled people. The scheme consists of three levels:
Disability Confident Committed (Level 1) – Making a public commitment to inclusive recruitment and workplace policies.
Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) – Taking action to remove barriers and create an inclusive environment.
Disability Confident Leader (Level 3) – Advocating for change and supporting other organisations in their journey.
What Moving to Level 2 Means for MHM Wales
Achieving Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) status means we have taken measurable steps to make our workplace more welcoming and accessible. This includes:
Ensuring our recruitment process is fully inclusive so disabled applicants have equal opportunities.
Guaranteeing interviews for disabled candidates who meet the essential job criteria.
Providing workplace adjustments, such as flexible working arrangements and assistive technology.
Offering disability awareness training to ensure all staff are equipped to support colleagues and service users.
Encouraging our partners and suppliers to follow Disability Confident principles.
These actions help ensure that every employee at MHM Wales feels supported, valued, and able to thrive.
Why This Matters
At MHM Wales, we believe that diversity strengthens our organisation, and inclusion ensures everyone can reach their full potential. Moving from Level 1 to Level 2 shows that we are not just making pledges—we are delivering real change.
By breaking down barriers and removing obstacles to employment, we are helping to create a society where talent is recognised, and opportunities are available to all.
What’s Next? Moving Towards Level 3 – Disability Confident Leader
We’re not stopping here! Our next step is to work towards Disability Confident Leader (Level 3) status. This means:
Supporting and mentoring other organisations to become Disability Confident.
Continuing to improve accessibility within all aspects of our organisation, including our zero-carbon community hub in Treorchy.
Listening to feedback from disabled employees and service users to keep improving our policies and approach.
Join Us in Championing Inclusion
We encourage other organisations to take the next step and commit to the Disability Confident Scheme. Together, we can build workplaces that celebrate ability, diversity, and equal opportunities for all.

Let’s continue to create a world where everyone’s talents are valued and recognised.
About Mental Health Matters Wales (MHM Wales)
Mental Health Matters Wales (MHM Wales) is a dedicated charity committed to improving mental well-being and wellness across communities in Wales. With a focus on advocacy, peer support, counselling, and community-based services, we empower individuals to navigate mental health challenges, access support, and have their voices heard. Our work spans a range of initiatives, from specialist support for veterans, families, and individuals experiencing mental health difficulties to advocacy services that ensure people’s rights are protected.
Our Talking Connections and out-of-hours services provide crucial mental health support when it's needed most, while our Wellbeing Retreat offers a safe space for respite and recovery. We take a trauma-informed approach, providing specialist support for individuals impacted by trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), helping them to rebuild resilience, engage with community support, and move forward.
To promote holistic well-being, we offer art sessions, walking groups, a conservation group, and music sessions, creating opportunities for individuals to connect, express themselves, and improve their mental and physical health. No formal diagnosis is required to access our services—our support is open to everyone, ensuring that help is available when it’s needed most.
At the heart of our mission is the belief that everyone deserves access to the right support at the right time—because mental well-being matters.
