Dementia Action Week (19–25 May 2025) is a powerful time to highlight the importance of emotional support for carers of people living with dementia. At Mental Health Matters Wales (MHM Wales), we understand that carers often face feelings of isolation, anxiety, and emotional distress. Our Talking Connections Counselling Service provides essential support to help carers manage these challenges.

What is Talking Connections?
Talking Connections is a counselling service designed to offer emotional support including for carers. Our counsellors provide a confidential and supportive environment where carers can freely express their emotions, address their concerns, and develop effective coping strategies.
Who Can Benefit?
Carers and family members – providing essential emotional support to help manage stress, burnout, and grief associated with caring responsibilities.
How Talking Connections Makes a Difference
Our service supports carers of those with dementia by:
Reducing Isolation: Offering a safe space to talk helps carers feel heard and connected, reducing feelings of loneliness.
Enhancing Coping Strategies: Counsellors support carers in developing emotional resilience and practical strategies for daily challenges.
Improving Relationships: Improved emotional health often strengthens family dynamics and relationships.
Why Dementia Action Week Matters
Dementia Action Week encourages carers to seek early emotional support. At MHM Wales, we recognise the importance of prioritising emotional health for carers, helping them sustain their wellbeing alongside their caregiving responsibilities.
By raising awareness of Talking Connections, we aim to:
Encourage early intervention – proactively addressing emotional wellbeing to improve carers' quality of life.
Challenge stigma around seeking counselling – reinforcing the importance of emotional support for carers.
