Enhancing Patient Wellbeing Through Engaging Activities at Lakeside Ward

At Lakeside Ward, University Hospital of Wales, our Wellbeing Team is committed to implementing activities that promote cognitive stimulation, social interaction, and emotional upliftment for our patients. Recently, we introduced games like Magnetic and Dobble into our sessions, and the positive impact has been noteworthy.

One patient expressed fascination with the magnetic game:

"It’s something different, especially when the magnets suck together!"

Another patient found Dobble particularly engaging:

"I enjoy card games, but Dobble’s great, it makes you think!"

Benefits of Cognitive Games for Patients:

Enhanced Cognitive Function

Engaging in brain-training games has been associated with improvements in various cognitive domains, including attention, memory, and problem-solving skills.

Mood Enhancement

Participating in enjoyable activities can boost mood and contribute to a sense of accomplishment and well-being.

Social Interaction:

Group games provide opportunities for patients to connect, reducing feelings of isolation and fostering a sense of community.

Stress Reduction:

Focusing on game strategies can serve as a pleasant distraction, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety.

Motor Skills Improvement

Certain games can aid in enhancing fine motor skills and coordination, beneficial for patients' physical rehabilitation.

By integrating such activities, we aim to create a therapeutic environment that supports both the mental and physical health of our patients. The positive feedback and observed benefits reinforce our commitment to holistic care approaches at Lakeside Ward.
