Reflecting on Dementia Action Week at MHM Wales

Celebrating community, connection, and compassion

Dementia Action Week 2025 has been a heartwarming reminder of the power of community and the importance of standing together to support those affected by dementia.

We kicked off the week with a lovely morning walk alongside our Caring Community Café group. The fresh sea air, shared conversation, and gentle pace provided a perfect moment of calm and connection. We rounded it off with coffee and cake at the Hi Tide – a simple yet meaningful way to build friendships and wellbeing.

Our creative spirit continues into next weekend with Awen’s Seascape project at Griffin Park and the beach in Porthcawl. In partnership with Cwmpas, flags handmade at our Quarella Road office with Jack from Caring Connections will form part of a public display. Anyone is welcome to come along and add a flag on the day – a chance to contribute to a growing tapestry of hope, memory, and solidarity.

Back in Bridgend, Zak, one of our fantastic volunteers, represented MHM Wales with pride at Princess of Wales Hospital. His stand helped raise awareness of the dementia support we offer and encouraged others to get involved in outreach and community work.

Maria also brought joy and connection by joining the Alzheimer’s Society at Halo Leisure Centre. Attendees were treated to a joyful session of singing and dancing – a reminder that shared music and movement can be truly powerful tools in creating inclusive spaces for those living with dementia.

A huge highlight of the week was the selfless act of our wonderful supporter Mags, who bravely shaved her head to raise money for our Dementia Hubs. Thanks to her efforts, we’ve raised an incredible £722.50. Mags, you are an inspiration!

We are also deeply grateful to Briggs Equipment, who generously donated £1,000 to support the continued growth of our Dementia Hubs. Donations like this make it possible for us to keep offering meaningful, accessible support across our communities.

From walking groups and creative projects to public outreach and generous donations, this week has shown what’s possible when people come together with kindness and purpose.

Thank you to everyone who supported us during Dementia Action Week. Together, we’re creating spaces where no one faces dementia alone.
