Advocacy Services at Mental Health Matters Wales: Giving Everyone a Voice

At Mental Health Matters Wales (MHM Wales), we believe everyone deserves to have their voice heard, their rights respected, and their needs prioritised. That’s why our advocacy services are here to support individuals across Wales, empowering people to take charge of decisions that impact their lives.

We’re not just discussing human rights—we’re actively advancing them.

Every service we provide is rooted in fairness, dignity, and equality, aligning with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015. Together, we’re building a brighter, fairer Wales.

Our Advocacy Services

Here’s how we’re making a difference across Wales:

Based in Bridgend, our Community Advocacy Service is all about making sure people can access their rights, understand their options, and be heard when it matters most. We provide tailored support to help individuals confidently navigate important decisions.

Under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, our IPA service is here to help individuals across Bridgend, Swansea, and Neath Port Talbot. We guide people through health, social care, and housing systems, empowering them to participate fully in decisions that affect their lives.

For parents involved in child protection cases, our PPASS offers practical and compassionate guidance. Available in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, this service helps parents feel supported and informed as they navigate complex processes, ensuring their voices are heard.

Our PRPR service, delivered under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, ensures that individuals deprived of their liberty have someone to represent their rights and act in their best interests. This service is available south and west wales, providing vital support to those who need it most.

If someone lacks the capacity to represent themselves in legal proceedings, our Litigation Friend service steps in. Available across south and west wales, we ensure individuals’ voices are heard in the Court of Protection and that their rights are upheld every step of the way.

Why Advocacy Matters

Advocacy is about standing up for fairness, equality, and respect. Whether we’re helping parents, supporting those in care, or guiding individuals through legal systems, our focus is always on empowering people to make decisions and shape their own futures.

Human Rights Day 2024: "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now"

This year’s Human Rights Day, on 10th December, is a powerful reminder that everyone has a right to be treated with dignity and respect. The theme, "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now," reflects the urgency of protecting and promoting rights today to create a fairer tomorrow.

At MHM Wales, our advocacy services bring these values to life every single day. We’re here to make sure that rights are not just talked about but lived and experienced by everyone.
