Celebrating Carers Week 2025 Recognising and Supporting Unpaid Carers Across Wales

Carers Week (10–16 June 2025) is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise the vital contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

This year’s theme, “Putting Carers on the Map”, calls on communities, employers, and service providers to do more to identify and support unpaid carers – those who look after a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, mental health needs or addiction, cannot cope without their help.

At Mental Health Matters Wales (MHM Wales), we stand with carers every week of the year — and we’re proud to support Carers Week 2025 by shining a spotlight on the vital role unpaid carers play across Bridgend and beyond.

💙 Carers Need Support, Too

Being a carer can be rewarding, but it can also be isolating, exhausting, and overwhelming. Many carers are juggling work, finances, and family responsibilities while putting their own health and wellbeing second.

We believe carers deserve:

  • Accessible mental health support

  • Clear information about their rights

  • Time to focus on their own wellbeing

  • A voice in decisions that affect them

🌱 How MHM Wales Supports Carers

Through our community-based services, we offer support that recognises the unique pressures faced by carers — whether you're supporting someone with a mental health condition, dementia, a learning disability, or any long-term health need.

Here are just some of the ways we help:

🌱 Mental Health & Wellbeing Services

We offer peer support groups, wellbeing hubs, and tailored mental health programmes across Bridgend, Cardiff, RCT, and beyond — open to carers and the people they support.

🗣 Independent Professional Advocacy (IPA)

Our advocates support carers to express their views and access the care and services they and their loved ones are entitled to. Advocacy is especially important when navigating health or social care systems.

🧩 Dementia Support

Our Dementia Wellbeing Hub in Maesteg provides a safe space for carers and people living with dementia to find advice, connect with others, and take part in meaningful activities.

🌈 Support for Young and Parent Carers

Through projects like PPASS (Parent Participation Advocacy Support Service) and our youth engagement work, we amplify the voices of carers of all ages — from young people to parents navigating complex systems.

🤝 Let’s Put Carers on the Map

We invite everyone — from schools and employers to health professionals and community leaders — to get involved this Carers Week.
