Today brought a burst of joy, colour, and creativity to the Blaengarw Dementia & Wellbeing Hub as we hosted a truly enjoyable Easter craft session for our community.

Set at the very top of the Garw Valley, Blaengarw is a village steeped in history – once a thriving coal mining hub with a proud working-class identity. From the 1870s onwards, collieries transformed this quiet valley into a bustling, close-knit community. And although the mines are no longer active, the resilience and togetherness they inspired still shape Blaengarw today.
That same community spirit was on full display this afternoon, as attendees came together to create beautiful hand-decorated Easter baskets – each one bursting with character, springtime colour, and a little chocolate too!
"In Blaengarw, where community has always meant everything, our Easter baskets became more than just crafts – they became symbols of hope, connection, and the quiet strength we all carry."

Easter baskets have long symbolised abundance, sharing, and care – and in today’s session, they took on even more meaning. Each basket became a gentle act of creativity and connection, a moment of focus and fun, and a reflection of the value of giving and receiving with kindness.
Craft sessions like this offer more than enjoyment – they support emotional wellbeing, reduce isolation, and help build confidence, especially for those living with dementia. These moments of shared activity mirror Blaengarw’s proud past, when its people came together through both triumph and hardship. Today, we honour that legacy in new ways – through creativity, compassion and community.
Our thanks to everyone who joined us. Your warmth, laughter and imagination filled the hub with a truly uplifting energy.
