Dementia Action Week: A Heartwarming Tea Party at Our Nolton Hub

To mark Dementia Action Week, Mental Health Matters Wales hosted a Dementia Awareness Tea Party at our Bridgend Dementia Hub on Nolton Street. The event brought together individuals, families, carers, and the wider community for a morning filled with conversation, connection, and support.

The Power of Social Connection

Social interaction is a fundamental aspect of mental and emotional well-being, especially for those living with dementia. Our tea party created a welcoming environment where attendees could relax, chat, and enjoy each other's company. Events like this can help combat feelings of isolation, boost mood, and provide a sense of belonging. Research consistently shows that social activities can enhance cognitive function, maintain communication skills, and promote a more positive outlook for those affected by dementia.

Informal Support in a Relaxed Setting

Alongside tea, cakes, and friendly conversation, the event also provided a valuable opportunity for informal support. Guests could speak with our team, share their experiences, and access information about local dementia services. Our partners were on hand to offer specialist advice:

The Alzheimer's Society – Providing expert guidance, resources, and support for individuals living with dementia and their families. Their representatives were available to answer questions and offer practical advice.

Tuvida – Supporting carers with practical information, signposting, and emotional support, helping them navigate the challenges of caring for loved ones.

Building Awareness and Community Spirit

Dementia Action Week is about raising awareness, challenging misconceptions, and fostering understanding within the community. Our tea party embodied this spirit, offering a simple but powerful way to connect, learn, and support one another.

Looking Ahead

This tea party is just one of many ways we aim to support individuals affected by dementia. Our Bridgend Dementia Hub continues to offer regular activities, information sessions, and support groups designed to promote well-being and social engagement.

If you missed the event but would like to learn more about our dementia support services, please contact us at bdh@mhmwales.org or call 01656 651450. Let’s continue working together to create a more understanding and supportive community.
