At Mental Health Matters Wales, we recognise that Pride is about more than celebrationāit's about visibility, equity, and support. Thatās why our SHARE Peer Support GroupĀ exists: to offer a safe space for LGB+ individuals who have experienced self-harm or suicidal thoughts, particularly those who often feel overlooked or isolated in their mental health journey.

š¬ Why SHARE?
LGB+ people are:
2.8 times more likely to self-harm
3.1 times more likely to die by suicide than heterosexual women
Young LGB+ people (16ā24)Ā face a 2.8 times greater risk of self-harm
Black LGB+ individualsĀ are 4.7 times more likely to die by suicide
These arenāt just numbersātheyāre peopleās lives. And behind each statistic is a story, often shaped by discrimination, rejection, or silence.
The SHARE Group was developed to break that silence.
š§ What is SHARE?
SHARE is a peer-led support group that offers:
A non-judgemental, inclusive space to talk
Connection with others who understand what youāre going through
Signposting to support if you're in crisis or looking for next steps
Whether you're currently struggling or on the road to recovery, you are welcome.
š When & Where?
Every Wednesdayš 15:30 ā 17:00
š§ share@mhmwales.orgĀ or info@mhmwales.orgĀ to join or learn more.
š This Pride Month, letās talk about mental health
Pride is about authenticityāand part of that is being honest about our struggles as well as our strengths. If you or someone you know is LGB+ and has experienced self-harm, please know that you're not alone. You are seen. You are supported.
Together we can continue to build a Wales where no one faces mental health challenges alone.
