Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week (3rd - 9th February 2025)

mhmadmin

Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week is a time dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of sexual abuse and violence.

This year, the awareness week runs from 3rd to 9th February 2025.

At Mental Health Matters Wales (MHM Wales), we recognise the profound effect that sexual abuse and violence have on mental health. Survivors often face challenges such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health conditions.

Our mission is to support individuals affected by mental health issues, and during this important week, we aim to highlight the intersection between sexual violence and mental wellbeing.

Understanding the Impact

Sexual abuse and violence can lead to long-lasting psychological effects. Feelings of shame, guilt, and fear are common among survivors, and these emotions can hinder the healing process. It is vital to understand that these responses are normal, and with the right support, recovery is possible.

MHM Wales' Commitment

MHM Wales is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to those affected by mental health challenges, including survivors of sexual abuse and violence. Our services include:

  • Counselling Services: Our "Talking Connections" counselling service offers a safe and confidential space for individuals to explore their feelings and experiences with trained professionals.

  • Advocacy Services: Our advocacy services empower individuals by providing information, support, and representation to ensure their voices are heard.

How You Can Get Involved

Raising awareness and supporting survivors requires collective effort. Here are ways you can contribute during Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week:

  • Educate Yourself and Others: Learn about the signs of sexual abuse and the resources available for survivors. Share this information within your community to foster awareness.

  • Participate in Events: Engage in local or online events aimed at raising awareness about sexual violence. To find out more contact you local CVCs

  • Support Survivors: Offer a listening ear to those who choose to share their experiences. Believe and validate their feelings, and encourage them to seek professional support if needed.

  • Advocate for Change: Support policies and initiatives that aim to prevent sexual violence and provide better resources for survivors.
