Awen Cultural Trust Supports MHM Wales Wellbeing Walk with a fascinating Reminiscence Session

At MHM Wales, our wellbeing walks offer more than just a chance to get outdoors—they provide an opportunity for social connection, reflection, and improved mental well-being. We were thrilled to welcome Emma from Awen Cultural Trust to our recent walk, where she led a wonderful reminiscence session, sharing fascinating insights into the history of Bridgend.

Awen Cultural Trust, a charity dedicated to promoting cultural engagement across Bridgend and beyond, plays a crucial role in supporting well-being through arts, culture, and heritage. Their mission aligns perfectly with our aim to promote positive mental health, and their contribution to our wellbeing walk was both educational and uplifting.

Emma's session guided participants through stories from Bridgend’s past, sparking conversation and encouraging the sharing of memories. By connecting with the rich history of the local area, walkers enjoyed a meaningful mental and social experience alongside the physical benefits of the walk. These reminiscence activities remind us of how culture and heritage can be powerful tools for enhancing mental health.

The session not only helped participants engage with their community but also provided a sense of belonging and shared understanding, both of which are vital to mental well-being. For those living with mental health challenges, this sense of connection can make a real difference.

We are incredibly grateful to Awen Cultural Trust for their support and to Emma for leading such an engaging and memorable session. Collaborations like this strengthen our community ties and demonstrate the important role that local organisations can play in improving mental health.
